DooID - a good alternativeRecently, I wrote a blog post about the platforms of About.me and Flavors.me to figure out which one is the best, when wanting to manage one single identity that gather your profiles from various social media platforms you are active on.

However, I recently received an e-mail, where it was drawn to my attention that an innovative alternative to both About.me and Flavors.me was launched a while ago.

This platform is called DooID and it is a One-Stop Virtual Business Card that links friends, contacts and clients to your networking websites, business info and contact details.

What can you do with DooID?
Apart from offering similar customization options as About.me and Flavors.me, DooID is a full-blown virtual business card containing all contact data, including phone, mobile, fax, address, instant messaging etc, so it can be an alternative for businesses as well. In addition, the business card of DooID is also offered in a mobile version and vCard download in order to import all contact details in address books or e-mail apps.

The idea behind – and future ambition
In relation to this innovative alternative to similar platforms, I have talked to Per Schmitz who is the founder of DooID. I asked him how he came up with the idea of this new platform and what his ambitions are with the project in the future. And Per told me following:

“I first thought about creating an application for Virtual Business Cards after visiting Tim van Damme’s page back in early 2009. The simplicity and functionality of Tim’s concept just blew me away, as it has nothing to do with overloaded Linkedin profiles or complicated content aggregators. I wanted something like this for myself and thought that it would be cool to give others the possibility to do the same – the idea for DooID was born.”

The public beta version of DooID was launched in September 2009. And thanks to great user feedback, they have been able to enhance the app step by step. In addition, Per comments on the goal of the platform: “Our future goal is to help people being easily accessible, on- and offline. We’ve got some interesting ideas on our roadmap: it’s going to be all about sharing contact details – on the web, on mobile devices and in the real world.”

I checked it out and it definitely seems as if there are some great possibilities with DooID, when wanting to create a site gathering your information. There are various options to customize the profile with all the relevant data you want to present – and the possibility of using it as a business card as well, which is pretty smart. However, there are various platforms to choose from, so what do you think of DooID? Will you give this one a try, or rather keep using one of the other platforms?
