In august, we experienced a big turnpike for social network. In the US Facebook exceeded Google on the key figure – time spend on site.
We spend a lot of time on these two sites for one reason, the same reason we are on the web in the first place: information.
Now Linkedin has stepped up. They want a larger part of the time you spend on the web and has launched their own share button. On 30 November, Linkedin announced on their blog that they are ready with a simple piece of code for you to install a “share on Linkedin” button on your site, blog etc.
No doubt that with a widespread of this share button around the web, the Linkedin platform becomes so much more than the rolodex it was just a year ago. Where do you want to share or seek out professional related news… This is a wide open space (which Twitter have filled out for some). Imagine the possibilities of interaction with your professional network through the relevant information you share with each other.
It will be possible both to build your own personal professional brand or the brand of your company in a way it hasn’t been possible yet. Some might say it has been possible to share information on Linkedin for a while, but honestly its not easy, it takes too much work. The Twitter/Linkedin integration does not work that well – bringing your rapid tweets out on the Linkedin platform doesn’t make much sense.
I personally think that this is very exciting news, as a heavy user of Linkedin in my professional life, I believe that this function over time will bring more content and therefore also more people to the platform to seek out relevant information from their network. This this brings my network closer to me – there is potential in that!
