Recently, YouTube has announced that it will be featuring its top web videos in a new section on their site called YouTube Charts.

The purpose by making this new feature is to keep the users updated on which videos that are trending at the moment, which videos are all-time classics, how videos stack up against one another etc. In addition, it is possible to search for the list of videos that have received the most views, the most likes or the most subscribers over the past day, past week or all the time, for example. On each list, you can see the Top 100 videos.

Where do I go?

If you want to visit the YouTube Charts, you only have to click on the “Browse” page, when entering the website of YouTube, and then the “Most Viewed Today”. Here, it is visible that the YouTube Charts rank videos in an organized list assigned with number ranks – opposed to earlier. The old “Browse” function also ranked videos in a similar fashion, but videos were not assigned number ranks. Additionally, it was more difficult to see how different videos stacked up against one another, which is an important part of the new feature.

Give feedback

To gain knowledge of what kind of features people would like to have added to the Charts, YouTube is soliciting feedback, so it can be possible for the online portal to develop the feature even more. For example, this could be by making categories such as “most shared” or “best newcomer”. You can leave a comment or give feedback to the Charts at the YouTube blog.

Lastly, I find it especially interesting that the different Charts can be a part of indicating what goes viral. Furthermore, the most popular videos can function as an inspiration for marketers, among others, to think in new ways and create new ideas.

What do you think of the YouTube Charts? And do you have some ideas for what YouTube might add to the Charts?
