One reason why people like social media so much is the individual control it gives us. You decide what you want to read, see and listen to. Not like a TV with tons of commercial breaks and not like a newspaper with hundred of pages you don’t care about.
It’s all about your needs and your reason to participate. You are in charge. It’s a fact that companies have a hard time to get people listen to them.
So how to get people’s attention? I’ll give you a great example.
The pizza chain HELL, located in New Zealand, has created something to entertain their customers with and to give them the control in an interactive YouTube adventure. YouTube has been a great place to publish fun ad videos in the hope that they will go viral.
This is certainly a different way of using YouTube. HELL has transformed a series of videos into a game; your mission is to help a pizza boy named Steve delivering pizza without getting killed by zombies. Your decisions turn into new videos and the story about Steve and the zombies continues. If you make it all the way, you put yourself in the draw to win a year’s supply of HELL’s pizza (That’s a lot of pizza!).
The participation is a two-way communication, which also is the beauty of social media. It allows you to involve your customers instead of only having them listen to what you have to say. When people are encouraged to participate, they will be more inclined to feel their contribution is important to you.
To have a video become viral is hard – social media marketing has risen the level of creativity. It can feel like people have seen everything these days. So try to do things differently and give a reason to participate. You need to give to get attention.
