Are you a blogger or getting started to blog? Many people are giving tips on how to blog, and now I am joining in.
Great content is always the key to a great blog but there are also several ways and steps to take when you present your content. And to make your blog desirable to others, it is also a matter of making it sharable and relevant to others.
So here are five of my tips to great blogging:
1. Set the goal
What’s the purpose of the post? To enlighten, to attract, to highlight? Have a clear goal in mind for what you want your readers to get from reading your blog.
2.Do your research and have a catchy headline
Nothing is more boring than repetition. Google and search Twitter for your topic, what’s being said about the subject matter, and for heaven’s sake don’t repeat what other people are saying. In the world we live in now, it is very difficult to be the first one to say everything first, but make sure you voice your own opinion on the subject, and try to add something to the conversation.
In the faith of you wanting to tweet your post; the thing that sells, other than sexy headlines, is a clever headline. Keep it short, simple and to the point so it’s easy to RT.
3. Give your opinion and be yourself
Remember it is you who is writing. You are the big boss. Put your own words and opinions down. What do you think? Don’t be afraid of saying something and later changing your mind (read my blog post on Gowalla, I think I take a lot of what I said back, but hey, that was my opinion when I first learned and blogged about it). Remember that you are a person, and others who will be reading it are also just people, and you are entitled, and will most likely, over time, be respected for your opinion.
4. Make it an enjoyable read and use examples
Crack a joke or two; use your natural sense of humour or natural sense of sarcasm. Emphasis on natural. If it doesn’t come to you naturally, then don’t force it. Be yourself.
There is nothing better than good storytelling, so use real life examples to illustrate your point. Post a video. Also, blog posts do not need to be very long, a blogpost I really enjoy is one where people posts pictures, and that’s it. Leaving the best to my imaginations.
5. Provide Resources
Link to other people’s blogpost if they have written something brilliant. To be honest, in this day and age, every random Tom, Dick and Harry (and you soon!) blogs, and it is pretty damn hard to find good blogs, so if you happen to come across something good, link to it! You will eventually be known as someone who knows where to read what. Wham bam!
