Youtube is launching a global experiment to create a user-generated feature film shot in a single day. On July 24, Youtube invites you to capture a glimpse of your life on camera and submit it to the ‘Life in a Day’ project. It will be a historic documentary of the many lives around the planet, seen through the eyes of the people.

I find this project compelling as it is testing the potentials of the social web and showing what the outcome can be by co-creating and letting individuals have a voice of their own.

The most compelling footage will be edited into a feature film to show a cohesive story of a single day on earth. The footage will be edited by Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald (Last King of Scotland) and produced by Ridley Scott (Gladiator).

The Youtube film will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and if your footage makes it to the film, you will be credited as co-director and maybe selected to attend the premiere.
