Today I heard some strange sounds. They came from the shopping street in front of Mindjumpers office. When looking out of the window I instantly fell in love and jumped down the stairs with my camera.
Four guys from the band Flaskedrengene (The Bottle Boys) were gathering quite a crowd with their alternative music instruments: Water filled bottles tied together with gaffa tape.
I couldn’t help smiling. These guys were great. And all the tourists seemed to agree with me.
My first thought was that these talented guys must have had been featured in some kind of viral campaign – the most obvious guess – for a beer or soft drink brand.
After playing their brilliant beer-whistle versions of Toto’s “Africa” and Shakiras “Whenever – Wherever” they told me that they haven’t yet been asked to perform in a commercial. They’ve only been offered a minimal sponsorship from a beer company – money that went to producing new creative bottle instruments. This is despite the fact that they’ve existed for five years and have participated in several national television shows.
After a few minutes of browsing on YouTube I found other “bottle-bands”, but no real creative commercial use of the concept. Well, except for a polished beer commercial that plays on the concept, but without authenticity.
The concept of The Bottle Boys is playful, talented and fun – some pretty nice things to be associated with. I can’t stop thinking about creative ideas for videos with great viral potential. And this is actually the reason for this impulsive blog post. Normally we would start with a client and a strategy, but in this case I’d like to know if you know any marketing people who can see the potential in working with these guys. I promise you that the ideas are there. Give us a shout! Oh, and if you find someone who’ve already used this concept commercially/virally – please let me know.
