On November 9th 2010, the Award Gala for The First International Social Media Award Show For Communication And Marketing Professionals will take place in San Francisco.

The why

The Bees Awards grant recognition to the best Social Media practices of the year in order to define and promote outstanding professionals and their marketing expertise.

The Bees Awards was created to grant recognition to the best Social Media communications and marketing practices. Everybody is welcome to submit their work and help the industry share its excellence within the international marketing community.

For whom

The Bees Awards are for communications and marketing professionals including: public relations and advertising agencies, advertisers, consultants, freelancers, students, business managers, and entrepreneurs. People who pay or are paid to leverage social media tools to accomplish a corporate purpose may enter.

Why bees?

Bees developed a well coded communication system to make their collective intelligence greater than each individual’s intelligence. Like bees, Social Media is all about collective communication. It takes place everywhere there is user-generated content. Websites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and any other community-based content are Social Media. This new kind of content and media usage calls for a new communications and marketing expertise. The Bees Awards reward this new expertise.

The Categories

The Bees Awards will also define, for the first time, the specialized Categories in social media marketing. The Judged Categories will include:

  • Best 140 Characters (SMS, Tweet)
  • Best Use of a Micro-Blogging Platform
  • Best Use of a Social Media Platform

Follow up

This is of course something we at Mindjumpers are welcoming. Focus on the professional communication and marketing part of Social Media is what Mindjumpers sole focus is, so we will be following the Bees Award closely.

In a later post we will go more into the detailed background and some insights from the founders, I have arranged with the guys behind the Bee Awards, to stop by and make a background/insight interview with them when I in July is going to San Francisco. One of the things I am going to ask the guys about is – why all the visual art work. If you have any questions for the guys at the Bees Award please leave them as comments to this post or send me an email: Jonas@mindjumpers.com.
