In a previous post, I have already written about some of the advantages of running a company blog, so this post will mainly be focused on some of the strategic considerations to make to get you started. At a later post I will get into the practical stuff like finding a service.
1. Be strategic
As with any other communication, it is of course a good idea to make some strategic considerations before launching it:
-What is the purpose of the blog?
-Who are your target readers?
-What content do you intent to post?
-Who will be blogging?
-How often?
In this relation, you could make a plan and some guidelines for running the blog, so that you secure an angle for the content that is posted along with possible topics. That your blog has a certain profile makes it more attractive to follow for those people who share your interests.
2. Share the blogging
When it comes to running the blog, it is a good idea to set up a team of contributors to the blog. The more people you are to contribute to the blog, the less time consuming it will be and this way you can also attract readers by having a steady flow of new blog posts, whether it means two blog posts a day or two blog posts a month.
3: Be subjective
And last, but not least, think about the style and tone of your blog: If you are a company, your writing should of course reflect your brand, but it is also important that you are not afraid of taking leadership and expressing your opinion. This is actually the reason why your readers will find your blog interesting and valuable. It is not wrong to be subjective, since the more formalised information can be found elsewhere.
4. Spread the word
No matter what – don’t expect your blog to attract hordes of readers upon launch. If you continue to post valuable content for your readers, they will find you eventually.
The keyword to a great blog is great content, but of course it helps to attract readers if you are also good at spreading the word and give people a chance to find you – for instance through social media channels like Facebook and Twitter and by securing your blog to be found in search engines.
