One of the most fantastic things about social media is the possibility to connect with people all over the world, sharing knowledge, insights and passions.
In the middle of April we discovered that a blog called Midias Sociais about social media from Brazil had mentioned Mindjumpers in one of their blog posts – something we of course appreciate, and when translating the text from portugees, also very proud of.
I wrote to the founder of the blog Ricardo C. de Paula as I wanted to thank him but also wanted to hear something about the social media status in Brazil. It turned into a short interview with some interesting insights that you can read here:

The blog is a way to share research about social media and its impact on business and the society. At the moment, I work with social media in relation to a political campaign.
People around the world talk about social media – how is the situation in Brazil?
Almost all internet users in Brazil use social media. A theme that is being much discussed is the fact that many companies start using social media. It is something new and the market is very hot.
Which is the largest social network in Brazil?
In Brazil, Orkut is used by 80% of all internet users. This network is mostly used by users with a lower income. The users of Facebook and Twitter in general have a higher level of schooling. Social media is most widely used within a virtual community.
Do companies embrace the use of social media in Brazil?
Yes, many companies in Brazil use social media. The Brazilian web consists of a universe of 66 million people online according to Nielsen, of which 80% are connected to some kind of virtual community. The great challenge for brands is to manage its strategic presence in these communities through competitive intelligence, and this has caused repercussions in corporations who seek greater transparency in the way of relating to the consumer.
What companies in Brazil do you think are making the best use of social media?
We have some isolated cases, but not any leading campanies. I can mention the Brastemp, who used Transmedia in one of their campaigns.
