Denmark is going to the FIFA World Cup 2010 (soccer) in South Africa this summer. The sponsor of the Danish national team Addidas Football Denmark has just launched a campaign in Denmark – creating the biggest sports soccer jersey ever.

Every time someone joins the Facebook page, Addidas who is going to make the the jersey, ads 20 cm to the Jersey. Or as the video for the campaign says: “20 cm for every fan” – but I guess that’s 20 cm for every “liker” now.

So far, about 5,000 people have joined the page -  as they state, more than 2 million Danes are on Facebook so the potential for a giant jersey is there.

Today, a film to back up the campaign and to explain it has been put on YouTube – absolutely a nice one, maybe a bit long – but good and entertaining.

No doubt that by involving the fans of the national Danish soccer team (soccer is our national sport), Addidas does have a big chance of building a solid Facebook page in Denmark. But what are they going to do with that page after the World cup? Hopefully the strategy is in place – it’s going to be interesting to follow.

I will do a follow up on the campaign in about a month, the follow up will of course look into the number of people that have joined the page, a bit more of the content of the campaign, but also the communication and use by Addidas of the Facebook page.
