Spice Up Your Facebook Page

There is actually a lot you can do in a Facebook page, so that it will gain a stronger appeal to both existing and potential fans. If you are a business, it is worth keeping in mind that it’s almost possible to turn the page into a micro site.

One of the best features of Facebook Pages is the fully-customizable tabs. You can add and drag the tabs as you like to suit what you want to show. There is an endless number of third party applications available that lets you incorporate content to your page. You can add a blog feed, create a pool, show slides and PDF files, videos, Google maps and much more. And with a some basic skills in html or fbml (Facebook Markup Language) you can design your own tab.

It is also possible to set a default landing page for people who are not already fans. Then just set it to one of those nicely designed tabs you made, and it will pop up when a new visitor sees the page. All you need is some ideas and maybe a few technical skills as well, depending on what you want to do.

A Case
We assisted Egmont in spicing up their Facebook Page for Andeby - the Danish version of Duckburg – with a couple of customized tabs that should support their online universe and storytelling. We liked the idea they brought to us of wanting people to participate in reporting stories for Andeby News: with a number of new Disney characters figuring as editorial staff and journalists in Andeby News, fans of Andeby can send in a story to the character that fits their story the most and maybe have it published on the wall.

What we did was some consultancy and setting up of the extra tabs on the page. The page thereby gained a stronger online universe with some functionality to go with it. So now, if you feel like sharing a recipe, just send it to Wicky Wokand, who is the Disney character responsible for covering food and housing material at Andeby News.

I think the page shows a good example of creating coherence between functionality and storytelling while incorporating the design of the tabs in it. And also, it was fun working with. Have a look and maybe become an Andeby reporter yourself.
