Not only corporations and businesses are using social media to market themselves for an audience. Now the renowned grunge group Pearl Jam is using Twitter to promote themselves.
They are collaborating with the website Culture Jam, who have built an application for them. The application allows people to easily tweet about the song “just breathe”. In return you will receive a code that you can use to download the song for free on iTunes.
Culture Jam collaborates with a number of different artists. For example they have been streaming Rihannas new album, as well as creating social media collaboration on Facebook and Twitter for Alicia Keys.

I believe it is a smart move for Pearl Jam and bands in general to go with the flow of new media use, instead of trying to only rely on selling vinyls and CDs. It proved to be very successful when Radiohead about two years ago released their album “In Rainbows” for digital download at a price of your own choice. Later on, when the album was released it entered the UK Album Chart and US Billboard at number one.
Let’s see if Pearl Jam will have the same success.
