Thanks to the Facebook page RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE FOR CHRISTMAS NO. 1, which now has 476,828 fans, Rage Against the Machine has won the most competitive battle in years for Christmas number one.
The single, Killing in the Name sold 500,000 downloads beating X-Factor winner Joe McElderry’s The Climb by 50,000 copies!
According to the BBC Radio 1 chart show host Zack de la Rocha has called the event an ‘incredible organic grassroots campaign’. ‘It says more about the spontaneous action taken by young people throughout the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly’, he says.
Rage against the Machine are now number one in the charts 17 years after their single’s first release.
We congratulate Jon and Tracy Mortor who, along with the Facebook campaign also started a fundraising for Shelter at justgiving.com. They encourage people to donate to a good cause alongside their purchase of the RATM single – because no one should be homeless at Christmas. The campaign has raised £ 78,171.
