If you are an active social media user like I am, you can try out a new desktop application for Mac OS  X that gathers several services in one place. Socialite is similar to other desktop clients such as Seesmic Desktop and Tweetdeck that can also handle several services. You can incorporate your Facebook, Digg, Flickr, Twitter, Google Reader as well as other RSS feeds. Socialite was previously known as EventBox, but a couple of months ago, it was acquired by Realmac, who has been working on the interface and renamed it.

The most prominent advantage of the app is the fact that it allows you to keep track of your friend’s updates and your news stream in one place without slowing down your system. It also lets you to upload and tag photos in Facebook and Flickr.

I am generally a big fan of desktop applications, because it is easy to use, and eases my workflow since I don’t have to sign in at different places. Things would just be much more of a hassle if I didn’t use the Last.fm Scrobbler or Tweetie. So I think Socialite sounds promising.

However, I am in doubt whether it will actually be functional enough to work well and it would be nice if it could also support services like Delicious and LinkedIn. Also the price itself – $20 – makes me think twice. But you can download a free trial from Realmac.
