Finally here is an iPhone app that doesn’t drown in the thousands of fun but more or less useless apps on the market.
Yesterday, a new and very different iPhone app became available in the App Store: the Give Work iPhone app. The app is a corporation between the crowdsourcing platform CrowdFlower and the NGO Samasource. The goal of the collaboration is to train the less fortunate in Africa and elsewhere in quality assurance so that they can get work and make a living, while providing valuable data to companies.

Companies can send a task to CrowdFlower and Samasource who then place the task in Give Work iPhone app. Then Kenyan refugees trained by Samasource do the task before it’s double-checked by an American iPhone user to assure the quality and accuancy.
The iPhone app combines crowdsourcing and mobile technology and gives companies a possibility to provide work for Kenyan refugees while providing value to the company – both by taking their corporate social responsibility seriously and by lowering the company’s costs.

We think the app is pretty genius as it helps provide income for thousands of African refugees so that they can feed their families and afford education, and we can’t wait to see more initiatives like this.
