Some of you might remember a former blog post about a prediction from Mashable saying that Facebook will launch a ‘Share with Everybody’-option on the popular network.

Well, Facebook recently launched a beta version of what they call an Improved Publisher. The publisher enables Facebook users to share posts with a wide audience instead of just friends. The only people that have access to the beta version so far are the users that already have their profile and status privacy set to ‘Everybody’. Every time these users post content into their stream, they can choose to let everybody see that specific piece of content. That means that if you update your status with: ‘Loves strawberries’, your profile will show up in a Facebook seach on ‘strawberries’. It of course also means that it  enables companies to survey what kind of comments Facebook users share about a specific brand in their updates.

Facebook is all about sharing experiences, memories and events. But with everybody? I myself use Twitter for that. If I want to see what some of the gurus in social media are working on, I go to Twitter. And if I want to see what sort of world events people are chatting about, or if I want to know where to go on my summer holiday in Barcelona, I use Twitter. Twitter is currently the source for real-time information and news, but with the launch of the new publisher on Facebook, it seems like Facebook wants a piece of that success.  I don’t know if this means that I’m going to use Twitter less and get all my information on Facebook, but it’s pretty exciting to see what’s going to happen when Facebook releases its publisher and how people will receive it.

It looks like Facebook is ready to move away from being a array of closed networks into becoming a platform that can be used for discussing world events and making new connections. But what about the people who use Facebook to connect with friends and not with strangers? Will they be ready to share their thoughts with the world? Are you?
