The Swedish furniture brand Ikea is, in my opinion, one of the best examples of really cool marketing. I remember being really impressed with their guerrilla marketing-like decorations of bus stops and their invitation to a picnic in Central Park in New York.

Recently Ikea has also showed that they know how to make new media work for them and create a community around their brand. On their (Swedish) website they encourage people to upload decoration tips on video or photos and share them with other users. Viewers can then comment and maybe share new ideas about Ikea furniture and decorating.

As you can see they’ve received plenty of brilliant ideas. Watching the first video clip I for one feel very inspired to go out and get a houseboat. ☺

Ikea has also got their own fan page and plenty of blogs written by people who don’t seem to be related to the brand like ikeahacker and flatpackohio.

All in all Ikea shows a great example on how to get people to interact with and create communities around your brand. Well done, Ikea!

I agree. IKEA is not afraid to put a little more time and effort into fun and creative projects. Most other companies just don’t want to spend the time, money and effort because they are not sure if they will see a return on their investment. Also when IKEA does these projects, the atmosphere is one of fun and inspiration. This spirit and attitude is what makes the end result successful. I’d also like to share the site for IKEA’s web series, Easy to Assemble.

It’s quite creative and outside the box…just like everything else by IKEA

Very nice article on Ikea’s innovative marketing. I came across this via a related link from my own blog, that was generated automatically by WordPress.

I wrote an article on Ikea Hacking (http://mostlymarketing.net/2009/10/18/power-to-the-people-ikea-hacking/) and some other cool Ikea things, but I’ve never heard of the bus stops you mention above.
